According to a CBS exit poll, 60% voters who cast ballots said the economy was the most important issue in their vote.
That make sense.
But, an astounding 42% of the people in the CBS exit poll said Hurricane Sandy was an important factor in their vote and that Obama handled the emergency well.
Say what?
Demonstrating their conviction, these folks backed Obama by a better than two-to-one margin.
More astounding: 15% said it was the most important factor in Obama’s winning their vote.
This guy – and most others on Staten Island – probably weren’t in in the 15%.

Ken’s Take:
Great play by Team Obama … a twofer.
Got some votes against Romney and ended Christie’s 2016 presidential bid.

I translate Sandy into “environment”, which was my #1 issue, and “political collaboration” which was my #2 issue. Obama demonstrated concern on both with the way he handled Sandy, besidesw being “Presidential”. Republicans were 180 out from what I wanted on both points. Maybe others felt the same way.

If people changed their vote because Christie was not rude to the President, they clearly had little commitment to Republican ideology. I respect Christie more because he put everything aside but his state. His job as Govenor is to get the help his constituents need, and to reassure them. He did both. If you want to blame the election on a storm, the contrast between Katrina and Sandy is enough. Snarky comments aside, I suspect the blue collar and unionized folks who populate Staten Island did not vote for Romney.
