Here in the U.S., we just whine about high prices.
Not so in Venezuela.
According to USA Today, the Venezuelan government cracked down on soaring inflation by sending troops into appliance stores to slash prices.
Venezuelan bargain-hunters rushed Daka — an electronics chain similar to BestBuy –after the socialist government ordered a military “occupation” of the company’s five stores to force the company to charge customers “fair” prices.
Things got pretty ugly …
Some of Daka’s store managers were arrested – ostensibly on charges of price gouging.
The Venezuelan President exclaimed: “This is for the good of the nation, Leave nothing on the shelves, nothing in the warehouses … Let nothing remain in stock!”
On the upside, happy, compliant customers hauled away giant TVs, microwaves and washing machines at less than half price.
Observers noted that when the inventory of appliances is gone there will be none to replace them.
You think?
