Was Tuesday student government day?

Figured out what was really bothering me Tuesday night … and this time, I’m bi-partisan.

Both Obama & Jindal are smart but playing way over their experience levels.

One is the class “cool dude” who can win over the ladies and sell anything to the guys; the other is the class geek — call for homework help, but don’t elect homecoming king.

Neither is ready to play in the bigs quite yet … especially in the most important, most challenging exec slot on earth.

Wasn’t there someone between Obama and John “Grandpa Munster” McCain  to lead us through this mess?

That person was Mitt Romney, but he didn’t stand a shot because he was too close idealogically to President Bush and there was an overwhelming political mandate for change (encompassing both Democrats and Republicans, based on his approval ratings).

The most damaging thing to McCain was the Democratic ad that ran on loop for six months prior to the election with his quote of “voting with the president 90 percent of the time.” If the economy languishes for the next three years, Romey should be a viable option in 2012.

Agreed. This so-called “stimulus” package will determine whether we see Mr. Obama again in 2013. My guess is that we will know his fate by early next year, and we’ll probably be saying sayonara.

Jindal had an off night. I’ve seen this guy speak before and read about his accomplishments, and I can tell you that he’s the real deal. Everyone is so consumed with “style” and “delivery”, however what ever happened to “subtance?” Jindal has actually enacted reform in one of the most corrupt states in our union, while lowering taxes.

I like Romney and was disappointed when he lost. I think people will realize (after this stimulus fails), that we need some experienced leaders in DC with some business sense.

Romney’s problem had nothing to do with being close to Bush. Romney’s problem is that he is always trying to track the flavor of the month when choosing his political position and convictions – this is a good sign of an evidence based decision maker when talking about decisions that make a difference, but a very bad sign if people want to know whether he will do the right thing even when it is politically unpopular. If he acted like he had more of a spine and a commitment to certain positions even when it was clear they were slightly unpopular, his credibility with Republican voters would be much higher.

The simplest way that Romney can get back on track is to take on the cause of anti-illegal immigration. It sells really well with the Republican base and there are enough facts out there that can make it a winning political issue if it is well articulated.

I liked Jindal’s style for that speech so call me tone deaf, and he has had much better oratory days. I think the difficulty was that there was no audience to feed off of. Opposing parties should rethink how these speeches are given.
