Your tax dollars at work …

According to WashPost

Government records show that tens of thousands of federal workers are being kept on paid leave for at least a month — and often for longer stretches that can reach a year or more — while they wait to be punished for (or cleared of ) misbehavior or are disputing a demotion.

While disputing a demotion?

Here are some details that’ll make you cringe …

During a three-year period that ended last fall, more than 57,000 employees were sent home for a month or longer.

About 4,000 were idled for three months to a year and several hundred for one to three years.

The tab for these workers exceeded $775 million in salary alone.

While the employees stayed home, they not only collected paychecks but also built their pensions, vacation and sick days and moved up the federal pay scale.

That’s not included in these numbers.

And, oh yeah, The numbers reviewed account for only about three-fifths of the federal workforce since not all government agencies keep track of the employees on paid leave.

So, gross the number up to about $1.2 billion.

Ouch !

P.S. Remember Lois Lerner?

Once the IRS scandal broke, she was put on administrative leave, collecting a salary, one that reportedly totaled $177,000.

The scandal-centered IRS official is retired now.

National Taxpayers Union calculations show that Lerner could qualify for a starting pension at the annual equivalent of as much as $102,600, and up to $3.96 million over her lifetime.

Double ouch.
