Dems say that illegal crossings have declined in the past couple of years, evidence that that there is no crisis … and certainly no national emergency.
That narrative seems to have hit a bump in the road.
Let’s drill down on the numbers…

Citing data the US Customs and Border Protection CNN reports:
More than 76,000 people were apprehended crossing illegally in February, the highest number of “encounters” in any February in the last 12 years.
And,since October, there’s been a 300% increase in the number of families apprehended compared with the same period in fiscal year 2018,
“That means we have apprehended and encountered more families in just five months and five days than last year’s record total,”
There have been 70 groups totaling 100 or more individuals apprehended so far this fiscal year, compared with 13 in all of fiscal year 2018 and two in fiscal year 2017
According to the CPD chief, the record number of illegal crossings, in the past five several months has outstripped the CPD’s capacity which is now at “the breaking point”.
Good thing that there isn’t an escalating crisis.
Whew.

P.S. In 2014 – the prior peak in illegal crossings – President Obama declared the situation to be a “crisis”. I’ve searched, but been unable to find charges that it was a “manufactured crisis”.
Hmmm.
