Take the Gallup stay-at-home gut check and see how you compare.
==============
Drs. Birx & Fauci have repeatedly praised us for staying home to stop the spread … reassuring us that mitigation is working.
Well, how are we doing?
Gallup surveyed America to find out.
Before revealing the results, slot yourself along Gallup’s stay-at-home spectrum.
=============
“Thinking about everything you’ve done in the past 24 hours, which of the following comes closest to describing your in-person contact with people outside your household?”
- Completely isolated myself, having no contact with people outside my household
- Mostly isolated myself, having very little contact with people outside my household
- Partially isolated myself, having some contact with people outside my household
- Isolated myself a little, still having a fair amount of contact with people outside my household
- Did not make any attempt to isolate myself from people outside my household
=============
OK, let’s see how you compare to other Americans….
=============
According to Gallup here’s how respondents answered the question:
- 20% Completely isolated myself, having no contact with people outside my household
- 44% Mostly isolated myself, having very little contact with people outside my household
- 22% Partially isolated myself, having some contact with people outside my household
- 10% Isolated myself a little, still having a fair amount of contact with people outside my household
- 4% Did not make any attempt to isolate myself from people outside my household
I read this as at least 2 out of 3 are, in fact, making a real effort to stay home and stay safe.
I say “at least” because some people have no choice … they have to go to work or make the family’s run to a grocery store or pharmacy.
Another 32% are at least making a token effort or doing the best they can given their circumstances.
And, 5% are total idiots!
So, on balance I think Americans really are complying.
=============
While we’re on the subject…
I like the mantra that Dr. Birx says she passed along to her family: ”Nobody leaves, nobody enters”
That’s the only sure way to protect yourself and the others in your “nest”.
If somebody has to leave the nest to work or run an essential errand, make sure that they sanitize themselves immediately when they return — clothes go in the washer and returnee goes in the shower.
If somebody knocks at door, just tell them to go away.
