Barack Obama: “Elections have consequences”

Let’s see if he’ll man-up and say that in his press conference this afternoon.

Some quick morning after thoughts:

1) The sheer number of GOP wins in the House sent a clear message, for sure.

2) GOP control of the House is key b/c revenue bills originate there and there’s supoena power to call hearings

3) Rep. Issa will kick butt from his chairmanship of the House Oversight Committee … that’ll be fun to watch

4) I really did want Reid to survice as Senate majority leader … I hope he gets a lot of visibility as Obama’s sidekick over the next couple of years … helps GOP in 2012

5) When does Pelosi have to turn over the keys to her mega-Air Force passenger jet?

6) Hooray for John Kasich in Ohio … the only candidate that got $$$ from me …  the sweep of governor seats — especially in the Midwest — is huge !

7) Sorry, but there are 2 Americas … New York & California (& maybe Illinois) … and the rest of the country … that’s a problem.

8) Luckiest gal: Meg Whitman … that state is unmanageable … nobody can get the public employees’ unions under control … the unions showed their muscle in CA and NV

9) Angle, O’Donnell, Raese, Miller stirred things up …  if only they were stronger candidates

10)  My bet: Obama didn’t hear the message and will dig in his heels after some faux conciatory rhetoric.

    A few more thoughts:

    1) Let’s not forget that the size of this political shift is the biggest public repudiation of a president since the 1930’s — pretty amazing considering the support he garnered in 2008.

    2) Don’t bet on an Obama 2012 campaign message of “Change” and “Hope” — he’ll actually have to have substance.

    3) A Republican won Obama’s old Senate seat

    4) Every candidate that Obama campaigned for in the last week (VA, PA, IL, OH) had lost

Actually both Michele and Barak Obama campaigned during the last weeks in Bridgeport, CT (and Bill Clinton in Norwalk, CT) and regrettably all five incumbent Dem U.S. Reps won, a Dem won the open US Senate seat and most likely the Governor’s office. The Governor, some state reps and one state senate seat are still unknown because they are still counting the votes from Bridgeport – the state’s largest city. They ran out of ballots (only ordered 21,000 in a city with 70,000 registered voters) so they had to make copies. Then the Dem Secretary of State got a judge to extend the voting hours in Bridgeport, CT til 10PM. The Dem’s took advantage and robo called to get out more voters. Since the copied ballots couldn’t be scanned by our “new and improved” voting machines they are now manually counting thousands of votes. We never had this kind of problem with our old lever voting machines! No one seems to know when the counting will be finished and what kind of court challenges there will be to the copied ballots and extended hours. What a mess and huge disappointment. I feel like voting in CT is a cross between Chicago style politics and Florida vote counting.

To Pres. Obama the message is VERY clear – “you people are more scared than I thought.”
