Brady: “Maybe those guys gotta study the rule book and figure it out”

In the words of Yahoo Sports:

The NFL took deflate-gate very seriously, hammering the New England Patriots with unheard of punishment in the matter of deflated footballs.

The league announced Monday that quarterback Tom Brady was suspended four games, the team was fined $1 million and will lose its 2016 first-round draft pick and a fourth-round pick in 2017.

That’s a huge punishment considering there was no evidence Brady was directly involved and the Patriots’ ownership and coach Bill Belichick weren’t involved.

Say, what?

Here’s why I think the punishment fits the crime (or, is maybe a tad on the light side) …

Let’s start with the Patriots’ owner and coach…

The organization has been nailed as repeater-cheaters.

Owner & coach bear ultimate responsibility for setting the culture and enforcing the rules.

The buck stops with Kraft and Belichick … even if they were looking the other way.

What about Brady?

This fiasco puts  Brady in the history column with Sammie Sosa and the other bat-corkers.

It’s now an indelible mark on his legacy … say it ain’t so, Joe (err, Tom).

That is itself a pretty big punishment

So, why am I pro-suspension?

Here’s what swayed me …

Remember when the Patriots pulled some bush-league tricks on the Ravens in the play-offs?

On three plays during the scoring drive that brought the Pats within seven, New England used only four offensive linemen, meaning one of the six wideouts was an ineligible receiver.

The official announced the player that had reported ineligible , but the Ravens seemed to have trouble identifying which players they needed to cover and which one they absolutely didn’t.

In the post-game press conference, Brady rubbed it in, and dissed the Ravens:

“Maybe those guys gotta study the rule book and figure it out.”

Well, Tommy Boy, what goes around, comes around..

Maybe you just gotta study the rule book and figure it out.

See you in October ….

Evaded Question

Why didn’t the NFL take this opportunity to ditch its wacky rule that allows each team to bring & use it’s own balls.

That’s nuts.

The nuns call it an occasion to sin.

Put mere mortals in those situations, and guess what they’re gonna do.

You got it: SIN.

So, eliminate the temptation.

Starting now, have the league provide all balls, not the teams.

Make the kickers & QBs use the league-prepped ball that comes up in the in the rotation.

If they whine about it, throw the flag and back-march them 15 yards for whining.
