Which TV news source is “most trusted”?

August 1, 2018

The answer may surprise you.
============

A survey outfit called Brand Keys periodically measures a “Customer Loyalty and Engagement Index” that examines 1,287 brands across 150 categories to determine how much “trust” contributed to each brand’s engagement and market success.

For  TV “brands”, 4,012 viewers rated broadcast and cable brands that they regularly watch to determine how much trust those brands engendered. Source

The tightly bunched  “most trusted TV brands” at the top of the list are the BBC, Fox News and PBS.

Bloomberg and MSNBC fall in the middle of the pack.

The bottom of the pack are the Big 3 networks and CNN.

Hmmm.

What about ratings?

How many people watched the convention speeches?

August 11, 2016

It’s no secret that only about half of the U.S.  Voting Age Population (VAP) turns out to vote … and that the vast the majority of Americans are poorly (or narrowly) informed on political issues.

These days, pollsters are saying that a high percentage of Americans have a high level of interest in the 2016 Presidential race.

I got into a friendly debate re: whether “interest”  is a valid proxy measure for “informed”.

My POV: nope.

For example, how many people were interested enough to watch the Trump & Clinton acceptance speeches at their conventions?

Blame FoxNews … say, what?

October 9, 2014

Last week President Obama another shout-diss to FoxNews as the reason that roughly half of the country’s 300 million population think that he’s not doing such a great job.

Hmmm.

Let’s think about that.

Qualitatively speaking, , no disputing that Fox leans right and pounce’s on the Administration’s frequent miscues.

Quantitatively speaking, the President’s concern seems unfounded.

Fox boasts – with merit – that it outdraws left-leaning CNN and MSNBC combined.

That’s true.

And, top dog O’Reilly draws almost 3.5 million viewers … more than 4 times what best competitor Rachel Maddow draws.

But, that’s only part of the story …

Nums: The cable news race …

May 2, 2013

As reported by Drudge …

I’ve started to tire of O’Reilly, but he still holds a commanding lead.

Constantly amazed that Stewart & Colbert get classified as news shows … though frequent surveys say that many people do use them as their primary news source.

No surprise that MSNBC continues to get hammered in the ratings.

Kinda sad that that CNN continues to slip … key shows running even with Al Sharpton’s show … ouch.

So much for an informed electorate …

September 4, 2012

According to tvnewser.com, total viewership of Romney’s speech:

Ken’s Take:

FOX’s share was greater than #2 ABC and #3 NBC combined … before you say “yeah, it was the GOP convention” … I’m betting FOX outdraws the other nets for the DNC

Only about 25 million people watched … down over 31% from 2008.  So much for an informed electorate … I guess if if the vast majority of undecideds watched it’s ok.

I channel switched between FOX and CNN …  felt sorry for CNN … pretty good stable of commentators – arguably better than FOX’s, save for the leftie flame-throwers like Begala …. surprised their ratings free-fell

MSNBC has become a parody of a news network … does anybody take them seriously? It should merge with Comedy Central.

Speaking of which … What if Comedy Central had broadcast the convention – hosted by Stewart & Colbert?  Would be interesting to see the draw since many young voters and older liberals get most of their their news from Comedy Channel.

On balance, I’m disappointed more people didn’t watch …
