> Putting Biden currently underwater by 25 percentage points points.
Drilling down…
==============
Biden Competence
> A majority (55%) think that Biden is not competent to do the job
> 2 out of 3 Independents think that Biden is not competent to do the job
Hmm…
But at least he’s honest and and a nice guy, right?
Not exactly…
=============
Biden Honesty
> Only 42% think that Biden is honest; majority of those with an opinion think he’s not honest.
> 57% of Independents think he’s not honest.
OK, he’s not competent nor honest, but he’s a nice guy, right?
What?
==============
Biden “Favorability”
Quinnipiac asked: Is your opinion of Joe Biden favorable, unfavorable?
Apparently, “nice guy” (if true) doesn’t neutralize low scores on competence and honesty.
> Only 40% view Biden favorably (down 14 percentage points since Inauguration Day)
> 50% view him unfavorably (up 12 percentage points since Inauguration Day)
> Putting Biden’s current favorability score underwater by 10 percentage points).
If that isn’t bad enough…
=============
Trump’s Current “Favorability”
Here’s the ho-hum-crasher from the same Quinnipiac poll:
> Trump’s current favorability score is 41% (1 percentage point higher than Biden’s
> 52% view Trump unfavorably (only 2 percentage points more than Biden
> So, call it a tie … with both having majority unfavorable ratings
So, a broadly despised, mean tweeting, media pummeled, twice-impeached one-term president is viewed as warmly (or coldly) after nine months than the guy who was elected to replace him.
Can it be?
==============
Better Off or Worse Off?
Quinnipiac also asked a variant of the question that Ronald Reagan popularized:
Overall, do you think that the country is better off or worse off today than it was a year ago?
Keep in mind, that a year ago, we were pre-vaccine and largely shutdown economically and socially.
And, the answer is:
> A majority (52%) thinks that the country is worse off now than a year ago
> There’s near-unanimity among Republicans (94%) that the country is worse off
> Only 74% of Dems think that the country is better off now than a year ago … not fully offsetting the strong Republican view.
> Most telling, 56% of Independents (many of whom voted for Biden) think that the country is worse off now .
=============
Trump vs. Biden
To add a punctuation point to these survey results…
> “If the 2024 presidential election were held today, the same percentage of likely voters would vote for former President Donald Trump (40%) as President Biden (40%)
> Among Independents, if a Trump – Biden election were held today, our poll shows former President Trump winning that group 45% to 28%.”
Team Biden says not to worry, their lucrative pay-to-not-play poli-finance money-printing isn’t impacting the labor market or inflation.
Bull-dinky!
I just got 2 shocks that suggest the contrary.
We’re in the process or re-siding part of our house — just replacing some badly weathered boards.
The carpenter warned me that lumber prices were thru the roof.
Today, he handed me the bill. A small load of cedar siding cost me $3,700 — just for the materials.
The carpenter said that a couple of months ago, it would have cost $1,200.
That’s completely consistent with news reports of a tripling in lumber prices due homebuilding demand and supply shortages. Source
=============
More broadly, the BLS reported today that the CPI is up 4.2% year-over-year … the sharpest YOY rise in over a decade … you know, back in the Obama-Biden years. Is history repeating?
Note: “Energy Commodities“ prices were up almost 49% … and that’s before a CNN prediction that “Coming this summer: Gas stations will be running out of gas.”
Ouch.
=============
I always liked to ask my Trump-hating friends which they were most opposed to: the peace or the prosperity?
With prices soaring and former workers reinventing themselves as government-funded couch potatoes … and the Middle East literally exploding … we now have both less prosperity and less peace.
Maybe the Trump-haters think that’s a small price to pay for fewer mean tweets.
=============
P.S. And, I haven’t even mentioned the southern border … or faux school openings.
In fact, Operation Warp Speed was much more than fast vaccine R&D. Biden’s claims are, at best, disingenuous.
============
Biden frequently makes 2 related Covid-specific claims:
1. “There were no vaccines available when I took office and not enough to vaccinate America.”
2. “The Trump administration didn’t have a plan for getting people vaccinated. We had to start from completely from scratch.”
==============
The first claim — not enough vaccine ordered — is indisputably false
Let’s start with the pre-approval vaccine commitments made mid-2020.
As part of Operation Warp Speed, the Trump administration entered into contracts with multiple drugmakers … while their potential vaccines were still in clinical trials.
Pfizer-BioNTech: 100 million doses (two-dose regimen)
Moderna: 100 million doses (two-dose regimen)
J&J: 100 million doses (one-dose regimen)
AstraZeneca: 300 million doses (two-dose regimen)
Novavax: 100 million doses (two-dose regimen)
Sanofi-GSK: 100 million doses (one- or two-dose regimen)
In all, the amounts agreed to under these pre-commitment contracts totaled about 800 million vaccine doses, or enough for more than 450 million people. Source
The Pfizer vaccine was approved on December 11, 2020.
Roughly 2 weeks later, on December 23. 2020, HHS signed an agreement with Pfizer for an additional 100 million doses … with options to purchase an additional 400 Million doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Source
So, Trump’s Operation Warp Speed delivered to the Biden administration orders and options for 600 million doses of just the Pfizer vaccine — enough to vaccinate 300 million Americans.
Add in just the pre-commitments to Moderna and J&J and the total swells to 800 million doses — enough to vaccinate 450 million people.
By inauguration day, almost 40 million doses had already been distributed to the states and the daily vaccination rate was passing through the 1 million shots per day mark.
Since inauguration day, an average of about 1.6 million shots have been administered daily — a function of increased supplies (from manufacturers) and improved coverage and efficiency.
The supply flows have continued to increase.
How much of that is attributable to Team Biden’s claimed magic touch and how much of that is simply implementation ramp-up of Trump’s OWS plan?
That’s a question which naturally raises the second claim…
=============
So, is the second claim “no vaccination plan, starting from scratch” true?
While there may be some dispute about the depth and appropriateness of the Trump administration’s plan, there was one … and, by and large, it’s exactly the plan that Team Biden is implementing.
Both sides are getting way too serious either defending or skewering the guy.
So, let’s step back and start the week with a chuckle.
========
Yeah, I’m still a fan of America’s Got Talent .
I watch it so that you don’t have to … except for the highlights that I dish to loyal readers.
Here’s a hilarious one for you, whether you’re pro-Trump or anti-Trump …
========
The back story:
When the Singing Trump walked on stage for his first audition, the crowd booed loudly … remember, it is an NBC show.
Australian “Mel B.” – former Spice Girl and now an AGT judge – joined the booing and gave him a disqualifying ‘red X’ as soon as he started his act. Politically motivated?
The other judges passed him on to the next round.
This time, crowd was friendlier and Mel B. said
“I have to eat my words and apologize. You’re just like ‘him’ and you entertained us with the best 2 Backstreet Boys songs ever.”
Trust me … and start the week with a smile (and maybe a laugh).
Dems and their media buddies keep hammering Trump for being too cozy with Russia.
The slightest innuendo or chance encounter (think: Trump chats with Putin at formal G20 dinner”) gets blown up into a faux cause celebre that quickly evaporates.
Imagine for a moment if President Trump were to circumvent the Senate’s “advise & consent” rules by appointing people to his administration who play high-level cabinet-like roles … but aren’t subject to Senate approval.
The screaming would be deafening.
And, imagine if Trump were to call the process-circumventing appointees “Czars”.
Russia ! Russia !!! Russia !!!!
Clear evidence of collusion: Impeach for treason.
===========
Only problem with the story: Trump hasn’t done it, but Obama did … to a gleeful, encouraging press that argued “he had no choice but to do it.”
For a trip down memory lane, here’s a list of Obama’s Czars….
I agree … but for different reasons. ==============
Let’s connect a couple of stories today.
Encouraged by the Manafort-Cohen outcomes, Chuck Todd (NBC / MSNBC commentator) ranted that outgoing Speaker Ryan should begin “drawing up impeachment papers now”.
After all, “You now have a president of the United States accused of committing a federal crime.”
Well, not actually Dilbert … rather Dilbert’s author Scott Adams.
========
With all of the MSM “Trump is a wild & crazy guy” hysteria … coupled with the apparent progress on the NOKO scene … I was reminded of a prior (and once again timely) post.
During the Presidential campaign, Adams hit the nail on the head on his Dilbert blog, …
=======
Adams observed that, during the campaign, , Hillary’s constant refrain that we can’t have a loose cannon in the White House.
…. and the liberal media still doesn’t get “it”.
============
Last night – at a rally in Fargo, North Dakota – during his intro-salutes to attending politicians and uber-supporters – Pres. Trump gave a shout-out to Mike Lindell – founder and CEO of a company called My Pillow.
The crowd roared … and the liberal blogosphere and MSM lit up: “undignified”, “beneath the office”, “shameless marketing on behalf of a supporter”, etc.
The clip (below) is worth viewing for sheer entertainment value.
But, he did have one bombshell revelation …
=========
According to media sources, Stormy’s 60 Minutes interview drew over 20 million viewer’s … Comey drew less than 10.
And, the day-after reviews have been, well, not so good.
I’ve switched across cable stations Monday morning for the commentary re: Comey’s interview.
The anchors on CNN and MSNBC were acting like like they got coal in their Christmas stockings.
They kept trying to bait their panels, but even reliable liberals were using words like “beneath his (former) office” … “self-serving” … “narcissistic” … and most damning of all, “petty”.
===========
I think the most replayed segment was Comey’s observations about Trump’s appearance:
But he does need to fire Sessions … and may have his chance. ===============
Let’s connect a couple of dots today…
1) AG Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation … putting control in the hands of Obama holdover Rod Rosenstein.
2) Trump – and about half the country – thinks that the Mueller investigation has gone on too long and strayed far off course without scoring a significant direct hit on the original charter “Russian collusion”. (Of course, the Trump-haters and “resisters” think that Mueller is doing a dandy job.)
3) A DOJ “disciplinary office” has recommended to AG Sessions that Andrew McCabe be fired.
4) It’s widely reported that Trump may replace Sessions with Scott Pruitt – current EPA head (and former Oklahoma AG).
Feds nail Boris & Natasha for trolling the internet.
===========
Seriously, this is like something out of Rocky & Bullwinkle.
Friday was a very, very bad day for the DOJ / FBI.
First, it was disclosed that they failed to act on a very hard tip that the Florida school killer was literally locked, loaded and intending carnage.
Then, in an apparent attempt to deflect attention away from that egregious miss, the DOJ / Special Investigator held a spur-of-the-moment press conference to announce that a handful of Russian companies and individuals were being indicted for “sowing discord” and “meddling” in the Presidential election.
===========
Rather than just taking the talking heads at face value, I decided to read the indictment.
Honestly, it brought back memories … of Dudley Do-Right foiling the feeble plots of Boris and Natasha on Rocky & Bullwinkle.
There was some humor in the Nunes‘ memo
===========
Prior to release of the memo, the FBI issued a statement expressing the agency’s “grave concerns”.
One of the grave concerns – echoed by every left-leaning talking head – was that national security would be put at risk because the memo discloses our intelligence agencies’ sources & methods.
Usually, that means releasing the names of undercover operatives … or identifying intelligence “partners” … or disclosing technological information gathering techniques (say, bugging another government’s conference rooms).
Revealing those sources and methods would be a serious matter.
After reading it, I conclude that there are 3 likely scenarios to emerge.
First, let’s pound some stakes in the ground:
it’s virtually certain that the memo will reveal that the “Steele Dossier” – which everybody seems to agree (or concede) was funded by Clinton’s campaign (and-or the DNC) – was submitted to the FISA Court to obtain a warrant to wire-tap Trump associate Carter Page.
Strassel says to Ignore any arguments that the dossier was not a “basis” for the warrant or only used “in part.”
Why?
“If the FBI had to use it in its application, it means it didn’t have enough other evidence to justify surveillance.”
Further, Comey testified to the Senate, under oath that parts of the dossier were “unverified”.
The key word in the prior sentence is “parts”.
OK, on to the scenarios.
===========
Scenario #1: The DOJ / FBI applied for the warrant using the dossier and …
(1) failed to explicitly inform the court that it was funded by Clinton’s campaign and
(2) failed to explicitly inform the court which parts of dossier had been verified and which parts had not been verified.
If this is the case, the DOJ / FBI violated the FISA laws by providing the court with misleading (through omission) evidence.
That’s pretty bad.
===========
Scenario #2: The DOJ / FBI applied for the warrant using the dossier and …
(1) explicitly informed the court that it was funded by Clinton’s campaign and
(2) explicitly informed the court which parts of dossier had been verified and which parts had not been verified.
If this is the case, assuming that the verified parts were relevant to the application, then DOJ / FBI provided legit evidence and the FISA court ruled on the application based on its merits.
That gets the DOJ /FBI off the hook, but shines a light on the FISA Court and the FISA process.
==========
Scenario #3: The DOJ / FBI applied for the warrant using the dossier and …
The DOJ / FBI refuse to answer whether they explicitly advised the FISA Court of the Clinton-funding or whether they explicitly informed the court that relevant parts of the dossier were unverified.
The basis for the refusal to answer would likely be that the FISA proceedings are “sealed” … or that the information is classified.
This scenario simply keeps the issue alive at an even higher decibel level.
=============
My take:
If Scenario #2 plays out … the GOP case is toast.
I personally think that Scenario #1 represents “truth”, but ….
Republicans always get blamed for government shut-downs … and, the majority of Americans are ok with Dreamers being allowed to stay in the country.
Should have been an easy win for the Dems.
So, what the heck happened?
Here’s my take ….
===========
First, Trump plays hard-to-get on an extension to the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) … then he reluctantly agrees to let Ryan insert it into the Continuing Resolution (CR).
The Dems complain that the extension is too short, so he concedes to stretching its funding out to 9 years.
Dems do an end zone dance … a bit prematurely.
You see, CHIP became a sort of poison pill.
When the Dems shut things down, he tweeted:
Boom !
Just like that, the debate got framed as healthcare for 8.9 million American-citizen children versus citizenship benefits for 800,000 non-citizens.
On a dime, the polls started to turn against the Dems.
And, to make the Dems a bit uneasy, he tweeted again …
I like to tune in to MSNBC to get a sense of what the far left is saying … and, for pure entertainment value.
To say the least, I was surprised that a constantly looped headline following Trump’s signing of the tax reform package was:
=========
I had to scratch my head: What Obama tax cut?
At first, I assumed that they might be referring to Obama’s billion-dollar stimulus program which gave a dollar-a-day Tax Credit ($400 per worker and $800 per couple) in 2009 and 2010.
You might have missed this in the flurry on news last week…
President Trump issued an Executive Order redirecting NASA’s mission:
The directive I am signing today will refocus America’s space program on human exploration and discovery.
It marks a first step in returning American astronauts to the Moon for the first time since 1972, for long-term exploration and use.
This time, we will not only plant our flag and leave our footprints — we will establish a foundation for an eventual mission to Mars, and perhaps someday, to many worlds beyond — and bring back to Earth new knowledge and opportunities.
=========
I know what you must be thinking: What’s newsworthy about that … hasn’t that been NASA’s mission all along?
Nope.
President Trump’s Executive Order reverses former-President Obama’s marching orders for NASA.
In case memories have faded, let’s flashback to 2010 ….
But, it was the Clinton campaign and DNC … not Trumpsters.
==========
In case your eyes were glued to the World Series (which the Dodgers won 3 to 1) …
Last night, the Washington Post – hardly a right-wing conspirator – published an exclusive report (that has now been verified by several news sources) that provides evidence tying the Clinton campaign and the DNC to Russians.
Russia ! Russia !!! Russia !!!!

========
With all of the MSM “Trump is a bad person” hysteria … coupled with the Dems 4th straight special elections loss … I was reminded of a prior (and once again timely) post.
During the Presidential campaign, Adams hit the nail on the head on his Dilbert blog, …
=======
Adams observed that, during the campaign, , Hillary’s constant refrain that we can’t have a loose cannon in the White House.
MSM has been buzzing about Trump reportedly considering pardons for some of his “satellites” termination of Mueller as special investigator … and, Mueller shining a spotlight on the alleged obstruction of justice charges that Comey kinda lobbed into the mix.
Keep in mind that — well after the fact — Comey provided sworn testimony that that his investigation had not been subjected to any obstruction. Period.
Then, after getting canned, he leaked his ‘file-to-the-memo’ to the New York Times.
Strikes me, that Comey – as usual – was trying to be too cute by half and got himself into a bit of a bind.
Fueled by rumors and “secret intel assessment”, election-deniers are having a field day blaming Queen Hillary’s loss on the Russians and alleging that Trump is in Putin’s back pocket.
Beyond the hypocrisy of the Dems hissy fit over Trump’s refusal (in debate #3) to commit to accepting the election results if they seemed tainted (<= ironic, isn’t it?),the deniers seem to be overlooking a couple of key points.
Couple of weeks ago, there was aleak that Comey had a file memo documenting that Trump had privately told him (Comey) that he (Trump) hoped that he (Comey) could make the Flynn investigation go away quickly.
Left-leaning media started screaming “obstruction” … and right-leaning news outlets countered by looping later sworn testimony by Comey that his investigation had not been subjected to any obstruction. Period.
A Congressional oversight committee invited Comey to testify – to clear up the apparent contradiction … Comey agreed.
Then, Comey postponed (cancelled?) his Congressional committee appearance. source
Instead, he met with Rep. Chaffetz who has said that if more information were made public, then folks would cut Comey more slack on his handling of the Clinton email fiasco.
Hmmm.
And, it was reported that — before any Congressional appearances – Comey wanted to meet with Special Investigative Counselor Robert Mueller. source
The ‘Resistance’ has gotten what it wanted … and may rue the day.
========
Let’s keep this simple.
1) Democrats have been hollering for a special prosecutor, and
2) Comey reportedly wrote a memo-for-the-file – a practice that he’s known to have always done routinely – that says Trump hoped the Flynn investigation would go away … obstruction of justice? smoking gun?
3) So, Robert Mueller got appointed Special Counsel to the FBI:
Mueller is authorized to investigate “any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump,” as well as “other matters that may arise directly from the investigation”.
=========
OK, so Comey routinely wrote contemporaneous file memos documenting his interactions with his superiors … not just Trump … prior Presidents and DOJ bosses as well.
By definition, those memos are government property since they were created in direct connection to his job.
Mueller -– who has bi-partisan support as the last honest man – is authorized to pursue “other matters”.
Here’s where the Dems may be sorry that they got what they wished for …
P.S. He also contradicted Comey, the Democrat’s main talking point and, oh yeah, himself.
========
Yesterday, Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe testified before a Senate oversight committee.
McCabe was Comey’s second-in-command … previously best known for having a wife who ran for office in Virginia with mucho financial backing from the Democratic party and Gov. Terry McAuliffe – a longstanding Clintonista.
The connection raised obvious questions about conflict of interests during the Clinton email investigation.
Point: he’s certainly not a shill for the GOP.
The mainstream media, led by the NY Times, took to headlining that:
Mr. McCabe rejected the White House’s assertion that Mr. Comey had lost the backing of rank-and-file F.B.I. agents.
“Director Comey enjoyed broad support within the F.B.I. and still does to this day.”
Some folks can stand to listen to the President talk … and some find it refreshing.
======
Great piece in the Washington Post by Barton Swaim author of “The Speechwriter: A Brief Education in Politics.”
His basic conclusion: “The most distinctive thing about Trump … is the structure of his language.”
======
Swain says that Trump — nnlike most politicians –doesn’t speak in political rhetoric; he speaks in punchlines – short jabs, not convoluted passages. He lays it out there and let’s you buy in or opt out.
As the post-election day hangover wears off, an examination of the mechanics behind the Clinton’s get out the vote efforts ― reaching out to Clinton voters in key states at the door, on the phone or by text messages ― reveals evidence of what appears to be a pretty shocking truth.
Clinton volunteers were inadvertently turning out Trump voters.
It’s 400 pages of Clintonian self-aggrandizement, campaign malpractice and passive-aggressive blame-shifting.
More than any ordinary reader can bear.
Since I modestly fashion myself to be just an “ordinary reader”, I just digested a range of book reviews from the New York Times, NPR and the Wall Street Journal.
Even the mainstream media has had to acknowledge former President Obama’s infamous Syrian red line threat.
========
You remember, the former President said that Syria would face grave consequences if chemical weapons were used.
When the WMDs were used, the Administration kicked into high gear with increasingly harsh teleprompter readings and and a pleas for the Russians to take charge.
Soon thereafter came the declarations of victory – bold self-praise that all chemical weapons had been destroyed or removed (to Russia, of course).
In case you’ve forgotten the chest-banging, here’s a great compilation of the self-congratulatory gobbledygook (def’n)
This is all that people will remember about President Trump’s speech last night.
========
Even Van Jones – former Obama Czar of Something and now a far-left CNN commentator – conceded:
Here’s the essence of Jones’s musings as reported in theWashington Post …:
That was one of the most extraordinary moments you have ever seen in American politics, period. And he did something extraordinary.
And for people who have been hoping that he would become unifying, hoping that he might find some way to become presidential, they should be happy with that moment.
For people who have been hoping that maybe he would remain a divisive cartoon, which he often finds a way to do, they should begin to become a little bit worried tonight, because that thing you just saw him do, if he finds a way to do that over and over again, he’s going to be there for eight years.
He did something tonight that you cannot take away from him.
He became president of the United States.
With that as a starting point, the media has a challenge on its hands … how to do some reverse alchemy and turn the gold back into straw?
Reuters issued one of the 1st polls on attitudes towards Trump’s travel ban on people from President Obama’s list of 7 terrorist hotspots: Iraq, Iran, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, and Yemen.
The headline:
Of course, we hate to get picky, but if you add together “make you safer” and “keep you safe”, the headline would read “majority think travel plan keeps America safe (or safer)”
But, that doesn’t fit the narrative, I guess.
Here’s the bigger story (that should have been in the headline).
Comey probably did cost the Dems the White House …
========
Here’s something for Dems to ponder on inauguration day.
My theory of the case from the get-go was that
(1) Hillary did break the law by grossly (and intentionally) mishandling classified information
(2) There was both harm & foul … i.e. foreign agents hacked the info.
(3) Comey brushed past the intent (which wasn’t really required for criminality) and the harm of the foul … because he didn’t want to go down in history as the brutish guy who stopped the first woman from being elected president.
Fueled by a “secret CIA assessment”, election-deniers are having a field day blaming Queen Hillary’s loss on the Russians.
Beyond the hypocrisy of their post-debate-3 hyperventilation over Trump’s refusal to commit to accepting the election results if they seemed tainted, the deniers seem to be overlooking a couple of key points.
Will “uneducated” voters determine the 2016 Presidential election?

The most recent Washington Post poll – showing Hillary leading Donald by a couple of points — provides some very interesting drill down data … it’s worth some browsing time.
Buried in the numbers is some interesting data…..
======
MSM headlines frequently stereotype Trump’s supporters as non-college degreed whites … and often, the label is shorthanded as a more pejorative “uneducated”, i.e. mind-numbed dummies.
According to the WaPo poll, it’s true that Trump is favored by “white non-college” almost 2-to-1 … 60% to 33%
=======
No surprise there …
But, here are some findings that did surprise me a bit since they never gets spotlighted in the mainstream media…
From a very interesting election analysis in theOrange County Registerby Joel Kotkin – Presidential Fellow in Urban Futures at Chapman University …
Disclaimer: I’m not a Trump fan because of his incivility (bad role model for kids), unpredictability (I have no idea where he really stands on any issue except “the wall” – and I’m betting the under on that one), and temperament (though I wonder why the U.S. should be the only country that doesn’t have a wild man with their finger on the nuclear button – why not round out the roster?).
That said, I’ll fill in his circle on the scantron ballot if it’s Trump vs. Hillary in Novemeber.
Why?
I have much sympathy for his constituency of victims: lower and middle class working class folks … with emphasis on “working”.
You know, the folks that the press likes to brutally characterize as “brain dead, mindless zombies”.
=======
In his article, Mr. Kotkin more charitably coins them as the “precariat” — people who are working, many part time or on short-term gigs, but lacking long-term security.
