Have you been catching more colds this year?

October 5, 2022

Your immune system probably got weaker during covid-induced isolation …. but not to worry.
=============

In a couple of recent friend & family chats, it became evident that more folks are catching more colds more often.

One hypothesis is that the cold-wave is a result of immune systems that weakened during 2 years of covid-confinements.

Might be … but not to worry.

Just follow the late George Carlin’s advice for building (or re-building) a strong immune system.

His prescription for building a strong immune system to battle germ attacks is a bit contrary to current conventional wisdom and CDC guidance.

In other word, this is classic George Carlin.

Another swig of ‘tussin from Chris Rock …

May 1, 2018

Another cut at privacy and intellectual property rights
==========

 Yesterday, we reprised It takes more than a swig of ‘tussin…

The punch line to the post was that Chris Rock — a very funny guy — takes his craft very seriously and toils long and hard to test and fine-tune his material.

His routine on the many uses of Robitussin (‘tussin, for short) is a comedy classic.

If you haven’t seen the ‘tussin riff– or want a refresher — click to view it now.

======

Chris Rock homes his skits standing up in comedy clubs … for example, he said he worked the Comedy Cellar for a week prior his recent guest spot on SNL.

In a recent interview, Rock talked about an emerging threat to his practiced work routine…

In praise of practice and relentless testing …

Chris Rock is a very funny guy.

The ‘tussin skit sets the context for the rest of this post.

I always assumed that Rock was a naturally funny guy who just stoked up and unleashed a stream of top-of-mind consciousness on stage.

I was surprised to learn that Rock takes his craft very seriously and toils long and hard to test and fine-tune his material.

Here’s a glimpse at his recipe for success …

There was a comedian on America’s Got Talent this week that reminded me of Chris Rock.

Chris Rock is a very funny guy.

His routine on the many uses of Robitussin (‘tussin, for short) is a comedy classic.

The ‘tussin skit sets the context for the rest of this post.

About the fake news flap …

December 22, 2016

 Maybe folks should consider the source.

=======

Big frenzy these days about fake news.

Though Facebook CEO Zuckerberg says that less than 1% of news postings are fake, the company is setting up a special truth-checking squad.

I find that interesting in a couple of respects.

First, getting one’s news via Facebook.

Really?

I find that scary.

But, not surprising since The WaPo reports a  recent poll that “more than one in 10 young adults (ages 18-29) say they rely on “The Daily Show” or its now-departed spinoff, “The Colbert Report” for news about what’s going on in the world.”

Pew Research reports similar findings … right around 10%.

FBI: Hillary evaded indictment using the ‘Steve Martin Defense’…

September 6, 2016

By now, you should have heard that – during her FBI interview – Hillary had trouble recalling many details.

Details such as whether she gave or got state department guidance on email policy.

More of the “I can’t recall” items are listed at the end of this post

For the record, she signed a statement stating that she understood the rules & consequences … and emailed her minions about the importance of following the policy to the letter.

Easily forgotten, right?

And, she told the FBI that she could not recall any briefing after her December 2012 fall that left her with a concussion.

Say, what?

That’s presidential timber for you …

=========

Frankly, I expected Hillary to plead the ‘George Castanza Defense’ … just asking “was that wrong?”

Nope she went the Steve Martin route.

In a famous skit, Martin tips people how to get a million dollars tax-free.

His advice:

First, get a million dollars and don’t pay taxes.

Then, when the IRS calls, tell them “I forgot … I forgot to pay taxes.”

Martin  offers the same advice for bank robbery and other transgressions.

Click to view the 3-minute clip … it’s really funny.

Also, for the record,  here’s a list of other things that Clinton could not recall in the FBI interview:

So far, the best line of the campaign …

March 1, 2016

When Trump is ridiculing, he’s just mean-spirited.

My beef: he doesn’t make me laugh.

I think the new Marco delivers some pretty funny lines … with great timing and cadence.

Of course, most of his material is cooked up by his writers.

A comedian’s true meddle is tested extemporaneously.

My view: Marco scored in a recent Virginia rally.

A heckler was shouting that Rubio was an empty suit.

“At least it’s not a Trump suit that’s made in China.”

Not bad …

When the heckler continued, Rubio hit him with a haymaker:

“Ladies and gentlemen, meet the valedictorian from Trump University.”

Great line. Great timing.

Perspectives on Climate Change …

November 30, 2015

Since Bernie Sanders has said that Climate Change is a far bigger threat than ISIS

… and since Prince Charles has declared that Climate Change is what’s causing all the havoc in the Middle East

… and since President Obama says that the U.S. is demonstrating that it’s still relevant in the world by the “leading on Climate Change” (apparently from the front, not the back this time)

… and since this is the week of the Global Climate Change Convention in Paris …

I decided to get up to speed on the topic and do a couple of posts on the subject.

For openers let’s get some perspective from political commentator (and comedian) Dennis Miller …
